Gary is a qualified accountant, being a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He has worked in local government, the export sector and most extensively within automotive retail for the last 25 years.

He is currently managing director of a local motor franchise, having previously been a financial director and company secretary.

He is an elected member of Argyll & Bute Council, having been first elected 20 years ago in 2003 and has held a variety of posts. Since 2017, he has been Depute Leader and Policy Lead for Finance. He is married with one daughter and has voluntarily served on a number of local organisations and boards. He has been a Board Member of Dunbritton since 2003.
